Project Details

Mech simulator was a project to use as much experimental hardware to get an immersive VR experience. The game’s goal is for the player which is the pilot of a mecha to defend against flying enemies by shooting them. Since the pilot and user are both seated the movement feels very fluid. To move the mecha we used pedals otherwise used for flying simulators to simulate walking by moving the pedals in a walking motion. The arms of the mecha are controlled by razer hydra controllers.

My role within the project is to write the AI systems, tools and AI for the enemies alongside helping with the implementation of some graphical effects to make sure the user does not see the mecha’s arms clip inside the cockpit.
